Preparing for a Hike

There are many opportunities to join with us on group hikes led by an experienced leader, or you may choose to hike on your own or with friends.

Guidelines for Hikers:

  • Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. Layers are the most practical. Raingear, sun and insect protection are also essential.
  • Waterproof hiking shoes or boots are recommended.
  • Trekking poles can be helpful, particularly if you have any problems with your balance. They also take pressure off your knees and may spare them some wear and tear.
  • Bring food and water. We recommend two litres of water for regular hikes and three litres for long, challenging hikes in the summer.

The What3Words app makes it easy to find, share and save precise locations and can provide lifesaving assistance if you require it during a hike. Consider downloading it to any device that you take with you in unfamiliar territory.
